How it works.

• You call or use the quote form and tell us about the job.
• We pass the job to a local carport and patio business that can price it.
• That business quotes you directly. It is responsible for its own registration, insurance and workmanship.
• We don't charge you for the enquiry. Businesses we refer work to may pay us a referral fee.

• Builder registration. In Victoria, domestic building work over $10,000 must be done by a registered builder. Check the builder on the Building and Plumbing Commission (BPC, formerly the VBA) practitioner search before you pay a deposit.
• Domestic Building Insurance. Over $16,000, Domestic Building Insurance is required as well. Ask for the certificate before work starts.
• Public liability insurance. Ask for a current certificate from the business that will do the work.
• A written, fixed-price quote. Check it names the site-specific engineering (AS/NZS 1170.2 wind loading), the footings and who lodges the building permit.
• Permits. Almost any real carport needs a building permit through a private building surveyor, and some lots also need a Cardinia Shire planning permit. Our permit guide sets out the triggers.
• Plumbing and electrical. Plumbing work over $750, including gutters and downpipes, needs a compliance certificate from a licensed plumber, and fixed electrical work must be done by a licensed electrician with the required certificate.
